Organizational Context

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Sierra Leone is addressing the significant public health concern of malnutrition, particularly among children under five. Existing national guidelines and training packages require updating to align with the 2023 WHO Guidelines for the Management of Wasting and Nutritional Oedema, and to incorporate lessons learned from program implementation and evolving contexts.

Job Purpose

This role supports the Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone in revising and updating national guidelines and training packages for the management of acute malnutrition in children under five. The primary objective is to ensure these documents are aligned with the latest 2023 WHO Guidelines and other relevant policies. The position aims to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of malnutrition management services by providing technical expertise, facilitating analysis of global guidance, and supporting national adaptation processes through structured discussions and collaboration with the Ministry of Health and partners.

Responsibilities

The consultant will provide technical support to the Ministry of Health and partners in Sierra Leone. Key responsibilities include reviewing existing national guidelines, training packages, and operational tools related to the management of acute malnutrition in children under five. This involves analyzing and synthesizing relevant global guidance, including the 2023 WHO Guidelines on wasting and nutritional oedema, and other pertinent international standards and scientific evidence. The consultant will identify key recommendations requiring national adaptation and support the structured technical discussions with the Ministry of Health to facilitate the revision and finalization process, ensuring alignment with national priorities and implementation contexts.

Work Experience

Essential: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in nutrition policy, programme implementation, or guideline development. At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in revising clinical and/or operational guidelines for acute malnutrition management. Familiarity with WHO normative guidance and experience supporting national adaptation processes is required.
