Organizational Context

The WHO African Region is implementing the Community Protection and Resilience Strategy for Community Engagement (2023–2030) to empower communities as central actors in public health emergency preparedness and response. This strategy aligns with the WHO Global Health Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Resilience Framework, emphasizing bottom-up participation and multisectoral engagement. The initiative aims to make preparedness tangible and a shared social responsibility, fostering dialogue and community-led approaches.

Job Purpose

This role supports WHO AFRO Member States in institutionalizing community engagement for emergency preparedness and health system resilience through the REACH AFRICA initiative. The purpose is to translate regional commitments into practical, community-accessible tools and narratives. This involves developing and disseminating resources like podcast prompts, story cards, and mobile toolkits. The role also focuses on producing a podcast series that amplifies community voices, shares frontline solutions, and fosters two-way accountability between communities, experts, and policymakers. Ultimately, the position contributes to strengthening community preparedness and resilience across the African Region, enhancing regional and global health security by ensuring preparedness is understood and owned at the community level.

Responsibilities

Develop and translate regional community engagement commitments into accessible tools and narratives, including podcast prompts, story cards, and mobile toolkits for community actors. Produce a podcast series featuring storytelling, mobile dialogues, and multimedia content to highlight lived experiences and community-led solutions. Facilitate two-way communication and respectful dialogue with experts, partners, and communities within the podcast series. Support the rollout of REACH AFRICA preparedness initiatives across WHO AFRO Member States. Utilize a Multipurpose Media Room for various functions, including Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) activities, short-form video briefings, and the creation of knowledge products related to preparedness, response, and pandemics. Ensure content is culturally resonant and promotes community voice in national and regional priorities.

Work Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in audio and video production, podcasting, community engagement, or similar roles. Experience in digital dissemination strategies (social media, community radio, WhatsApp) is essential. Proven experience in producing high-quality audio content for community-based audiences is required.
