Job Purpose
The Driver provides essential transportation services for the WHO Country Office in Papua New Guinea, ensuring the safe and reliable movement of authorized personnel and the delivery of important documents and items. This role supports field visits and official duties, contributing to the operational efficiency of the office. The incumbent is responsible for the secure operation of office vehicles, adherence to traffic regulations, and basic vehicle maintenance, ensuring the smooth execution of the office's mandate in promoting health goals within the country.
Responsibilities
Provide reliable and secure driving services for authorized personnel, including transport for field visits. Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items. Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities. Ensure assigned vehicles are equipped with necessary documents and supplies, such as insurance, logs, first aid kits, and spare parts. Maintain accurate records of official trips, daily mileage, and fuel consumption. Perform day-to-day vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs, oil changes, tire and brake checks, and car washing, arranging for major repairs as needed. Ensure the vehicle's driving license is valid and adhere to all traffic regulations and safety requirements. Implement security measures for the vehicle and its contents when unattended. Verify the operational status of GPS and tracking devices daily. Report any incidents or accidents according to established procedures. Perform messenger duties, including handling deliveries and loading/unloading mail, documents, and goods.
Work Experience
Essential: Minimum of one year of experience as a driver with a documented safe driving record. Desirable: Experience driving for WHO or another United Nations agency is advantageous.
Skills
Knowledge of local traffic regulations and topography. Understanding of protocol and organizational security standards for drivers. Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle operation and maintenance. Ability to interact positively and tactfully with diverse clients. Capability to write official incident reports and understand instructions in the working language.
