Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) conducts periodic assessments of national capacity for NCD prevention and control using the global NCD Country Capacity Survey. This role supports the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Control department in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, contributing to ongoing efforts to monitor and evaluate NCD surveillance and response mechanisms across member states.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to analyze and interpret data from the 2026 WHO NCD Country Capacity Survey (CCS) for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). The consultant will compare current data with previous survey rounds to identify trends and provide insights into the burden and distribution of NCDs. Additionally, the role involves updating regional advocacy materials with key NCD surveillance pillars and WHO's facility-based monitoring guidelines. This contributes to strengthening health systems for NCD prevention and control, enabling countries to improve service coverage and response capacity.
Responsibilities
The consultant will analyze and interpret data from the 2026 WHO NCD Country Capacity Survey (CCS), identifying trends by comparing it to previous survey rounds. Key tasks include drafting comprehensive NCD mortality profiles for EMR countries and preparing the full CCS 2026 report, synthesizing findings and recommendations. The consultant will also draft a data report on NCD CCS progress, offering a comparative analysis from 2017 to 2026. Furthermore, a regional fact sheet and summary report on the implementation of facilities-based NCD monitoring guidelines will be developed, incorporating CCS 2026 results and other WHO data sources. Knowledge management activities include contributing to the update of regional advocacy materials.
Work Experience
Requires up to 5 years of experience in noncommunicable diseases epidemiology, policies, and strategies, specifically within EMR countries. International experience is mandatory. Experience with data analysis software (e.g., STAT, R, SASS, SPSS), Microsoft Office, and research tools like PubMed is expected.
Skills
Data analysis and interpretation, report writing, knowledge of NCD epidemiology and surveillance, proficiency in Microsoft Office and research databases (e.g., PubMed), experience with statistical software (STAT, R, SASS, SPSS), coordination, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
