Programme Coordinator, Women In Leadership (WIL) Programme
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) is implementing a grant-funded Women in Leadership (WIL) Programme. This initiative aims to accelerate gender equality by enhancing accountability, fostering cultural change, and improving systems to support women in leadership roles across the African Region. The Programme Coordinator, reporting to the Team Lead of the Regional Office Support Unit (ROSU), will manage this 12-month program.
Job Purpose
The Programme Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination for the Women in Leadership (WIL) Programme at WHO AFRO. This role ensures the timely delivery of grant-funded results, effective management of implementing partners and service providers, and adherence to donor requirements. The coordinator will oversee the achievement of project milestones and facilitate the integration of programme outputs into WHO AFRO's policies, systems, and practices. The position contributes to organizational transformation by advancing gender equality and supporting women in leadership roles within the African Region, reporting to the ROSU Team Lead and supervising project personnel.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include leading programme planning, prioritization, and intervention sequencing across multiple workstreams. The role involves identifying and mitigating implementation risks, ensuring compliance with donor and WHO requirements, and advising senior management on organizational readiness and policy implications. The coordinator will ensure alignment between programme outputs and WHO corporate priorities. They will manage service providers and consultants, including developing terms of reference, coordinating procurement, and quality assuring deliverables. Financial oversight of programme implementation, resource allocation, and grant utilization is crucial, involving expenditure tracking and compliance with financial regulations. The role also entails coordinating stakeholder engagement, organizing consultations and forums, and serving as a focal point for project communications. Furthermore, the coordinator will oversee monitoring, evaluation, learning, and reporting, including supervising the Data and Reporting Officer and ensuring lessons learned are captured. Finally, the position supports change management efforts to integrate programme outcomes into AFRO policies and practices.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience is required in project/programme management, monitoring and reporting, consultant management, stakeholder engagement, and organizational change initiatives. Experience working within UN, international, or NGO organizations is desirable. Proficiency in English or French is essential, with a good working knowledge of the other. Intermediate knowledge of Portuguese is desirable. Computer literacy and ability to use relevant software applications are also necessary.
