Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a national consultant to support the Government of Malawi in editing its National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS) 2026–2030. This plan is crucial for strengthening national capacities in health security, aligning with International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) and global health goals.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to engage a qualified national consultant to provide comprehensive editorial support for Malawi's National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS) 2026–2030. The consultant will undertake detailed editing, proofreading, formatting, and quality assurance to ensure the final document is publication-ready. This role is vital for producing a clear, accurate, and professionally presented NAPHS that effectively communicates the country's strategy for health security to government officials, development partners, donors, and international audiences, thereby supporting the nation's commitment to preventing, detecting, and responding to public health threats.
Responsibilities
The consultant will review the entire NAPHS document, including all sections, annexes, tables, and figures. Key responsibilities include performing comprehensive copy-editing to enhance readability, clarity, flow, and structure while maintaining technical accuracy. This involves correcting grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and language usage. The consultant must ensure consistency in terminology, abbreviations, acronyms, style, and formatting throughout the document. Additionally, the role requires formatting the document to meet professional publication standards and preparing it for official launch and dissemination. Regular progress updates will be provided to WHO and the Ministry of Health.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in editing, copy-editing, technical writing, or publication development is required. Proven experience editing complex technical, strategic, or policy documents, particularly in public health or international development settings, is essential. Experience with multisectoral documents and supporting international organizations or government ministries is highly desirable.
Skills
Excellent written and spoken English; exceptional editing and proofreading skills; strong attention to detail; proficiency in Microsoft Word (including Track Changes and formatting); ability to work independently and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
