Nutrition And Physical Activity Officer
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Indonesia seeks a Nutrition and Physical Activity Officer to support the Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Healthier Populations (HPN) unit. This role will contribute to the operational implementation of nutrition programs, including surveillance and intervention monitoring, and provide technical advice to the Indonesian government and stakeholders.
Job Purpose
The Nutrition and Physical Activity Officer will support the operational implementation of national nutrition programs in Indonesia, focusing on surveillance systems and intervention quality assessment for severe malnutrition and childhood obesity. The role involves providing evidence-based public health advice on nutrition, healthy diets, and physical activity to the government, collaborating with UN agencies and NGOs, and managing initiatives. Key contributions include guiding the joint work plan with the Ministry of Health, planning and executing programs, monitoring progress, and reporting on country-level actions to improve population nutrition and achieve universal health coverage.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the implementation of national nutrition programs, including program profiling, target setting, intervention selection, and action plan development. Provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and other government bodies on nutrition-related public health programs. Conduct research and data collection on nutrition topics to inform program development and reporting. Assist in drafting and revising public health guidelines and policies. Coordinate and organize workshops, meetings, and conferences. Support community outreach activities to extend health-care networks. Serve as a focal point for nutrition, providing technical support for WHO emergency and humanitarian nutrition activities. Ensure timely and high-quality implementation of biennial work plans and donor reports.
Work Experience
Essential: At least one year of relevant professional experience in developing and implementing national or subnational health programs in nutrition and food security. Desirable: Experience in addressing nutrition for noncommunicable disease prevention, knowledge of WHO mandates in humanitarian health crises, or experience with UN agencies, international institutions, or NGOs.
Skills
Sound knowledge of WHO and UN nutrition mandates. Technical expertise in strategies for malnutrition, including surveillance systems. Understanding of national health systems and commitment to improving population nutrition. Ability to build effective working relationships, interact, and advocate with stakeholders. Skills in planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating public health nutrition programs. Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
