Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Viet Nam is addressing the critical threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Vietnam's National Strategy on AMR (2023-2030) and Ministry of Health decisions highlight the need for strengthened surveillance of antimicrobial consumption and use (AMC/AMU). This consultancy supports the development of national guidelines for AMC/AMU surveillance in healthcare facilities.
Job Purpose
This short-term consultancy aims to provide essential technical support to the WHO Country Office in Viet Nam for the development of national guidelines on antimicrobial consumption (AMC) and antimicrobial use (AMU) surveillance within healthcare facilities. The role is crucial in advancing Vietnam's commitment to combating antimicrobial resistance, as outlined in its national strategy. The consultant will contribute to establishing robust surveillance systems, ensuring the rational and responsible use of antimicrobials, and ultimately strengthening the national response to AMR. This involves adapting WHO methodologies to the Vietnamese context and facilitating the integration of surveillance data into national health strategies.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct situational analyses and desk reviews of existing AMC/AMU surveillance frameworks and tools in Vietnamese healthcare facilities. A key responsibility is developing standardized AMC/AMU surveillance guidelines tailored to the country context and aligned with WHO methodologies. This includes supporting stakeholder consultations and validation processes for draft guidelines. The role also involves exploring and recommending feasible IT solutions for data analysis and contributing to the development of a web portal for AMC/AMU data. Finally, the consultant will develop practical recommendations for guideline implementation, including reporting pathways and capacity building initiatives for healthcare facilities.
Work Experience
Essential: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in antimicrobial stewardship, antimicrobial consumption monitoring, clinical pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, or clinical practice at national and international levels. Desirable: Familiarity with the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical/Defined Daily Dose (ATC/DDD) methodology and point prevalence surveys (PPS) for antibiotic use.
Skills
Understanding of health systems in Viet Nam, expertise in Antibiotic Stewardship, Surveillance of Antibiotic Use/AMC, and PPS. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Fluency in Vietnamese and English.
