Organizational Context

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Sudan aims to establish an effective country presence to implement cooperation strategies aligned with national health agendas and UN country team harmonization. This role operates within the WHO Representative's Office in Sudan, contributing to the operational support of WHO's mission in the country.

Job Purpose

The Senior Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation for the Head of WHO Country Office and other high-ranking officials. This includes meeting officials at the airport, facilitating immigration and customs, and ensuring compliance with WHO security and safety regulations. The role also involves delivering and collecting official pouches, mail, and parcels, and managing the day-to-day maintenance and record-keeping for assigned vehicles, ensuring their proper functioning and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include driving senior WHO officials and VIPs, providing airport reception and assistance with formalities, and ensuring adherence to security protocols. The role also entails managing the delivery and collection of official pouches and mail, performing messenger services, and maintaining the assigned vehicle through regular checks, minor repairs, and ensuring cleanliness. Accurate logging of trips, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance is required. Additionally, the driver will assist with procuring minor supplies, handling bill payments, and managing visa requests, car license renewals, and special permits for the Country Office.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of professional driving experience is required. Experience in driving cars is essential. Desirable experience is not specified.

Skills

Essential skills include basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle operation and maintenance, good knowledge of local topography and traffic regulations, and the ability to interact with clients tactfully and respectfully. WHO competencies such as Teamwork, Communication, Self-Management, and Respect for Diversity are also important. Expert knowledge of the local language is required, with beginner's knowledge of English being desirable.
