County Bundibugyo Virus Disease Readiness And Response Coordinator - NOA ( Multiple Duty Station)
Organizational Context
South Sudan faces a high risk of Bundibugyo Virus Disease importation due to porous borders and population movement. WHO supports the Ministry of Health and local authorities to strengthen preparedness in priority counties. This role serves as WHO's principal field coordination focal point in an assigned county, ensuring readiness and response integration with other public health emergencies.
Job Purpose
The County Bundibugyo Virus Disease Readiness and Response Coordinator will provide operational leadership and coordination for BVD preparedness and response activities within a designated high-risk county. This role is crucial for strengthening county-level coordination mechanisms, translating national plans into actionable steps, and addressing critical readiness gaps. The coordinator ensures that any BVD alert triggers a timely, coordinated, and safe response, integrating BVD preparedness with ongoing efforts for other public health emergencies like cholera, measles, malaria, and mpox. The position aims to operationalize the national readiness and response plan at the county level, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure effective field-level coordination.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination for WHO-supported Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) readiness and response activities in the assigned county. Support the County Health Department in establishing or strengthening functional incident management and coordination mechanisms. Develop, update, and monitor a costed county BVD action plan, identifying gaps and partner capacities. Convene coordination meetings, document decisions, track actions, and escalate operational constraints. Maintain an updated mapping of partners, facilities, referral routes, and supplies. Coordinate readiness assessments and track corrective actions across surveillance, alert management, case management, IPC/WASH, and logistics. Ensure dissemination and use of BVD protocols. Strengthen surveillance and community alert systems. Coordinate rapid response teams and ensure availability of necessary supplies. Oversee IPC/WASH improvements and community engagement. Validate isolation and referral facilities and coordinate drills. Maintain a readiness dashboard and provide timely reports. Support integration of protection and accountability principles. Monitor safety and operational constraints. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Essential: At least two years of relevant professional experience in public health, disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness/response, emergency coordination, or health program management. Experience supporting national/local health authorities and partners, preparing/monitoring plans, and working in demanding field locations. Desirable: Experience with WHO, UN agencies, or humanitarian organizations; viral hemorrhagic fever preparedness/response; incident management systems; or working in South Sudan.
