Job Purpose
The Data Clerk's primary purpose is to provide essential data management support for Bundibugyo Virus Disease readiness and response activities in South Sudan. This involves accurate and timely data entry, cleaning, validation, and reporting from various sources into WHO and Ministry of Health systems. The role contributes to maintaining up-to-date databases and trackers, enabling operational decision-making and supporting the overall public health emergency response efforts in the assigned area. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Information and Data Management Officer to ensure data integrity and efficient information flow.
Responsibilities
The Data Clerk is responsible for receiving, registering, organizing, and entering data from paper and electronic sources into designated databases and trackers. This includes updating information on alerts, investigations, cases, samples, laboratory results, contacts, readiness indicators, training, supplies, and partner activities. The role involves daily tracking of reporting completeness, checking submitted forms for errors, and resolving discrepancies with reporting officers. Additionally, the Data Clerk will perform routine data cleaning, deduplication, and validation, maintain organized electronic and hard-copy filing systems, and update operational dashboards, maps, and reports. The position also supports the compilation of county situation reports, readiness dashboards, and partner mapping, and assists with data collection during field activities and response operations.
Work Experience
Essential: At least three years of relevant experience in data entry, records management, information management, monitoring and evaluation, or office administration. Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and standardized data collection/reporting tools. Experience in data checking for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and maintaining organized records. Desirable: Experience supporting public health surveillance, outbreak response, humanitarian operations, or health programs; experience with WHO, UN agencies, NGOs, or health facilities; experience with health information systems (e.g., DHIS2, KoboToolbox); experience in complex emergency settings.
