Job Purpose
The purpose of this Chauffeur position is to provide essential transportation services for authorized personnel and critical items within Bunia, Ituri province. This role directly supports the operational effectiveness of the WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (EPR) by ensuring timely and safe movement of staff, documents, and supplies. By maintaining assigned vehicles and adhering to traffic and safety regulations, the chauffeur contributes to the smooth functioning of emergency response activities, facilitating the delivery of vital health services and support in a challenging environment. The position aims to fill a gap in logistical support, enhancing the unit's capacity to meet urgent transport demands.
Responsibilities
The Chauffeur is responsible for safely operating WHO vehicles to transport authorized personnel, deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items. This includes greeting official visitors at the airport and assisting with immigration and customs procedures as needed. Daily vehicle maintenance, including checking oil, water, battery, and brakes, is crucial. The incumbent will perform minor repairs, arrange for major repairs, and ensure the vehicle is clean and in good working order. Accurate record-keeping of official travel, mileage, fuel consumption, and servicing is required. The Chauffeur must also ensure all necessary measures are taken in case of an accident, adhering to relevant rules and regulations. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to support operational requirements.
Work Experience
Essential: At least two years of experience as a chauffeur. Desirable: Experience working with a United Nations agency is an advantage.
Skills
Proficient driving skills, knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations, daily vehicle maintenance, ability to report accidents concisely, basic first aid knowledge, ability to read and understand instructions and maps, ability to detect and explain vehicle malfunctions, basic repair skills, knowledge of Word and Excel, fluency in French.
