The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Mozambique (WCO) is responding to a protracted public health emergency in Cabo Delgado province, exacerbated by insecurity, climate events, and disease outbreaks. This emergency impacts essential health service delivery. The WCO is deploying emergency response personnel to lead health cluster coordination and provide services in IDP camps.
Job Purpose
The Pharmacy Technician will provide technical support and cooperation to the WHO Pemba Sub-Office, specifically within the WHO Health Emergency (WHE) program. The role focuses on the procurement, stock management, prepositioning, and distribution of essential medicines, vaccines, supplies, and commodities, including diagnostics and laboratory consumables, across the northern provinces of Mozambique. This support is critical for enhancing the planning and response to humanitarian health events and ensuring the availability of necessary health products.
Responsibilities
The Pharmacy Technician will manage the WHO local warehouse in Pemba, ensuring proper stock management of medical products and maintaining stockpiles for identified public health emergency risks. Responsibilities include preparing weekly and monthly consumption reports with stock analysis, assessing provincial logistics capacities for response plans, and conducting site visits. The role involves supporting the development of logistics plans and protocols, tracking supply pipelines, identifying gaps, and assisting in the prioritization of response efforts. Additionally, the technician will monitor incoming supplies, update forecasting tools, and help implement a Stockpile Management System at provincial and district levels.
Work Experience
Essential: At least one year of experience in managing drugs, supplies, and logistics at the provincial or district level. Experience in health emergencies is considered an asset. Desirable: Working experience with WHO or other international NGOs in this field is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in Portuguese (excellent knowledge) and English (good knowledge). Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of medicines, vaccine, and supply management functions. Proven experience working within multi-disciplinary teams.
