Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Mozambique is responding to a complex humanitarian health situation in Cabo Delgado province, characterized by internal displacement, insecurity, and multiple health emergencies including disease outbreaks and climate-related events. This role supports the WHO's efforts to lead health cluster coordination and provide essential health services.
Job Purpose
This role provides crucial technical support and cooperation to the WHO Pemba Sub-Office, the WHO Health Emergency program, and the Ministry of Health at provincial and district levels. The primary focus is on the planning and implementation of construction and maintenance works for health facilities, including Cholera Treatment Centers (CTCs) and other medical clinics in the Cabo Delgado province. The position also involves managing logistical processes for medical and non-medical items, working collaboratively with pharmacy technicians and WHO logistics and procurement teams to ensure the effective delivery of health services in a challenging humanitarian context.
Responsibilities
Support the daily operations and functionality of the WHO warehouse, including the transportation of goods, in coordination with the pharmacy technician for medical items. Assess and plan the construction and maintenance of targeted health facilities, such as CTCs and primary health care clinics. Ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment for construction projects by collaborating with WHO procurement officers. Mobilize and supervise daily workers for cargo handling and construction activities. Uphold WHO quality standards in the construction of CTCs and other health facilities. Perform any other assigned tasks by the WHE cluster and WHO Representative.
Work Experience
Essential: At least 5 years of experience in planning, building, and maintaining healthcare facilities. Desirable: Experience working with WHO or international NGOs in health emergencies is advantageous. Proficiency in supply management functions and tools is also required.
