This role supports the development of national Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) to standardize evidence-based clinical guidance, improve patient care, and promote rational medicine use across all healthcare facilities. The consultant will be based at QARD/MOHFW.
Job Purpose
The National Consultant, based at the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Division (QARD) of the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare (MOHFW), will provide daily coordination and technical support for the development of national Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs). This involves coordinating the guideline development process, liaising with local clinicians and stakeholders, and supporting the contracted technical firm, MOHFW, and WHO throughout the project. The role is crucial for establishing standardized, evidence-based clinical guidance to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality healthcare delivery in the Maldives. By promoting rational use of medicines and reducing clinical variation, the consultant will contribute significantly to improving patient outcomes and addressing the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Reporting: Act as the daily focal point at QARD/MOHFW for the STG development project, providing monthly progress reports to QARD/MOHFW leadership and WHO. Resource Facilitation & Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate access to local data, clinical protocols, and institutional resources for the technical firm. Organize and conduct consultations and technical review meetings with clinicians and experts. Coordinate liaison between the technical firm/agency, local clinicians, professional associations, and other stakeholders. Review & Documentation Management: Track reviewer comments through peer review and validation workshops, ensuring timely completion of review cycles. Compile and document feedback from clinicians and stakeholders for incorporation into draft guidelines. Logistics & Endorsement: Oversee logistics for all stakeholder consultations, technical review meetings, and validation workshops, including venue, invitations, attendance, and documentation. Prepare submissions for internal MOHFW review and endorsement of the finalized guidelines.
Work Experience
Essential: At least 1 year of relevant professional experience in clinical practice and/or public health. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, including coordinating meetings, workshops or consultations with clinicians and other health professionals. Desirable: Familiarity with clinical guideline development, adaptation or review processes, including prior involvement in developing or reviewing clinical protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), or treatment algorithms. Experience working within MOH, a government health institution, or WHO/UN agency.
Skills
Essential: Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills. Proficiency in English (written and spoken) and Dhivehi (spoken).
