International Consultant - Antimicrobial Stewardship Mentoring
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Ukraine is providing technical support to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). This consultancy role is integral to establishing and strengthening Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) programs at the healthcare facility level, ensuring the responsible use of antimicrobials in line with national regulations and WHO guidelines.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to provide expert mentoring and technical assistance to healthcare facilities in Ukraine to enhance their Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) programs. The role involves reviewing complex antimicrobial prescriptions, assessing AMS team performance, conducting surveys on rational antimicrobial use, and developing actionable recommendations for program improvement. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the responsible and optimized use of antimicrobials, contributing to the broader effort to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) within Ukraine's healthcare system. This involves direct engagement with facilities and the delivery of comprehensive reports and strategic advice.
Responsibilities
Conduct mentoring sessions in one Oblast-level hospital and one University hospital. Review at least five complex cases of antimicrobial prescription per facility. Prepare a report detailing the AMS team's work, identifying challenges and opportunities for improvement. Conduct a rapid survey on rational antimicrobial use within the selected facilities. Develop and provide ten specific recommendations to strengthen AMS programs at the facility level. Submit a final report summarizing the mentoring provided and the proposed strategies for AMS program enhancement in the two Ukrainian healthcare facilities. Ensure all activities align with Ministry of Health regulations and WHO recommendations.
Work Experience
Essential: Minimum of 10 years of experience in Intensive Care or Infectious Diseases. Demonstrated experience in participating in Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) programs at the facility level. Desirable: Proven experience in research, teaching, and mentoring, particularly within Ukraine.
Skills
High knowledge of antimicrobial prescription practices. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Proficient in presenting and facilitation. Proficiency in standard computer applications, presentation software, and project planning tools. Excellent knowledge of English.
