International Consultant -MHPSS Specialist
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt) is implementing a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) project. This consultancy supports the project's capacity-building efforts for health professionals and workers in Gaza and the West Bank, and contributes to MHPSS coordination and emergency response through the MHPSS TWG.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to bolster the WHO's Mental Health program in Palestine by enhancing capacity-building initiatives for mental health professionals and health workers in Gaza and the West Bank. The role involves providing technical expertise on MHPSS coordination and emergency response, specifically supporting the MHPSS TWG co-chairs. A key focus is ensuring the sustainability and quality assurance of ongoing activities, including supervising trained trainers, institutionalizing 'Helping the Helpers' guidelines, and conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) for UNRWA health workers in Gaza. The objective is to strengthen MHPSS service delivery and coordination mechanisms amidst the ongoing crisis, ensuring effective and quality interventions.
Responsibilities
The consultant will supervise the rollout and cascading of training programs, providing remote mentorship and quality assurance to trainers implementing mhGAP-HIG, PM+, SH+, and Thinking Healthy curricula. This includes conducting additional ToT sessions for UNRWA health workers in Gaza. The role also involves monitoring and evaluating the quality of cascade trainings. Furthermore, the consultant will provide advanced technical support to MHPSS TWG co-chairs in Gaza and the West Bank to enhance coordination, implement quality assurance mechanisms, and institutionalize the 'Helping the Helpers' program. This ensures sustained and effective MHPSS interventions and coordination within the region.
Work Experience
Essential: 10 years of relevant experience in MHPSS in emergency contexts, including preparedness, response, and coordination. Desirable: Expertise in developing 'helping the helpers' guidelines and conducting training of trainers on MHPSS guidelines.
Skills
Ability to facilitate remote training workshops; Advanced skills and knowledge in MHPSS in emergency contexts; Expertise in MHPSS coordination; Training of trainers skills (PM+, MHP HIG); Advanced skills in planning and managing activities; Advanced knowledge of IASC MHPSS RG guidelines; Proficient in Arabic and English.
