International Consultant - AI-Assisted Age Friendly Environment
Organizational Context
The WHO Western Pacific Region faces rapid ageing, with 270 million people aged 65+ projected to double by 2050. Noncommunicable diseases are prevalent, straining health systems. There's an urgent need for prevention-centred, community-based approaches to sustain well-being. WHO is strengthening its agenda on healthy ageing and NCDs, exploring innovative solutions like AI to enhance age-friendly communities and support evidence-informed decision-making.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office in advancing its agenda on healthy ageing and NCDs, with a specific focus on developing AI-assisted age-friendly environments. The role involves providing secretariat support to the WHO-Kanagawa Partnership, conducting regional gap analyses, and translating conceptual frameworks into practical, country-relevant guidance. The consultant will contribute to research prioritization, evidence synthesis, and innovation scanning to inform regional and country-level actions. Ultimately, the purpose is to strengthen prevention-centred, integrated health approaches and accelerate the shift towards community-enabled well-being across the life course, leveraging innovative technologies like AI.
Responsibilities
Provide secretariat support for the WHO-Kanagawa Partnership on Healthy Ageing and NCDs, including preparing technical notes, concept notes, and presentations. Conduct a regional gap analysis on healthy ageing, NCDs, and age-friendly communities, identifying research and innovation priorities, including AI-enabled approaches. Scan for emerging technologies, service models, and policy developments relevant to ageing societies. Develop practical, country-relevant guidance on AI-enabled age-friendly environments, translating frameworks into actionable research questions and supporting pilot design. Produce evidence briefs and analytical products to support the Division's strategic agenda, including research calls and policy translation. Contribute to the strategic and responsible use of AI within the organization through internal engagement and knowledge exchange activities.
Work Experience
Essential: Minimum of two years of experience in public health and/or qualitative or quantitative data analysis. Desirable: Experience in management consulting, coordinating diverse teams (national and international), and managing research and analysis.
