Job Purpose
The WHO Driver is responsible for the safe and secure transportation of WHO staff and goods, adhering strictly to UNDSS, WHO, and local traffic regulations. This role involves operating vehicles under various conditions, including security-sensitive situations, and performing basic vehicle maintenance to ensure operational readiness. The driver must maintain all necessary documentation, report incidents promptly, and communicate effectively with the security unit and WHO office. The position contributes to the smooth and secure functioning of WHO operations in Ukraine by ensuring reliable logistical support.
Responsibilities
Safely and securely operate WHO vehicles in compliance with UNDSS, WHO, and local traffic laws. Ensure the safety of passengers and other road users at all times. Conduct daily vehicle checks, including fluid levels, tire pressure, and equipment, and perform first-level maintenance. Plan and follow designated routes and schedules, providing regular updates on movement status. Report any security risks, incidents, or accidents immediately to the relevant units. Maintain all vehicle documents and ensure proper completion of administrative forms, such as logbooks. Utilize communication equipment effectively and adhere to WHO communication policies. Perform safe loading and unloading of goods when required, ensuring proper securing and balancing of loads. Proactively report vehicle deficiencies and safety concerns to the supervisor.
Work Experience
Essential: A minimum of four years of relevant experience as a driver of goods and/or passengers, preferably for a government, IGO, or NGO. Desirable: Experience within WHO or another UN agency.
Skills
Proficient driving skills adhering to UNDSS and local traffic standards. Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance. Competence in using communication equipment (satellite phones, radios). Knowledge of security protocols and procedures. Teamwork, communication, and respect for individual and cultural differences.
