Job Purpose
The Database Administrator will be responsible for the hands-on administration, performance tuning, and production support of the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) and related systems. This role is crucial for ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of the database infrastructure that underpins critical national health information systems in India. The position contributes directly to the effective functioning and data integrity of these platforms, supporting evidence-based decision-making and the overall mission of WHO India.
Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database systems, ensuring high availability and optimal performance. Monitor database performance, optimize queries, indexes, and configurations for faster response times. Perform regular maintenance tasks including backup, recovery, vacuuming, reindexing, and archiving. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues in development and production environments. Manage database security, user access, roles, permissions, and data protection. Design and update database structures based on application and reporting requirements. Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers. Review and improve developer-written SQL code before deployment.
Work Experience
Essential: At least 1 year of recent hands-on experience managing production databases for national health information platforms (e.g., IHIP, HMIS) using PostgreSQL on Linux/Ubuntu systems in multi-server environments. Experience in database installation, configuration, maintenance, query optimization, performance tuning, and backup/recovery is required. Desirable: Recent experience in database design, supporting large-scale government systems, and familiarity with application stacks like Java Spring Boot/Angular.
