National Consultant - Data Coding, Management And Analysis For The Case Study On Drowning Prevention, WHO Country Office, Viet Nam
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) in Viet Nam is conducting a multi-country case study on drowning prevention, with Viet Nam as a pathfinding country. This study, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, uses implementation research approaches to identify factors influencing drowning prevention interventions. Drowning is a leading cause of child mortality in Viet Nam, with approximately 2,000 deaths annually.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the WHO Country Office in Viet Nam by providing expertise in qualitative data management, coding, and analysis for a case study on drowning prevention. The role will contribute to documenting implementation pathways, identifying barriers and enablers, and synthesizing findings related to drowning prevention interventions. The consultant's work will be crucial for understanding the effectiveness and implementation of these interventions, aligning with WHO technical guidance and contributing to the broader goal of reducing child mortality from drowning in Viet Nam. The findings will inform future policy and program development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for organizing and managing qualitative datasets, including interview notes and transcripts. This involves applying deductive and inductive coding techniques, utilizing the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). The role includes conducting thematic analysis to identify implementation barriers, enablers, and pathways. The consultant will prepare analytical summaries and synthesis tables, and provide input for reports and presentations. Additionally, the consultant will participate in technical discussions and consultation meetings with WHO, the Ministry of Health, Johns Hopkins University, and other partners, ensuring close coordination with the Lead National Consultant and relevant stakeholders throughout the assignment.
Work Experience
Essential: At least 5 years of professional experience in qualitative research, public health research, or implementation research. Experience in qualitative data coding and thematic analysis, and in organizing research datasets is required. Desirable: Experience with NVivo or similar qualitative analysis software, and experience supporting implementation or policy research studies.
Skills
Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage qualitative datasets with attention to detail. Good communication and report drafting skills. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Knowledge of implementation science approaches and frameworks (e.g., CFIR) is desirable. Expert knowledge of Vietnamese and English is essential.
