Job Purpose
The National Consultant for Childhood Cancer will provide crucial technical and coordination support for the implementation of the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC) and the Global Programme on Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines (GPACCM) in Sri Lanka. This role involves close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Medical Supplies Division, National Cancer Institute, UNICEF, and other partners to ensure the effective management and supply of essential childhood cancer medicines. The consultant will facilitate working group meetings, track project progress, support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and assist in forecasting and quantification of medicines. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the national capacity for childhood cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes through coordinated efforts and efficient supply chain management.
Responsibilities
Provide technical coordination for GPACCM and GICC activities, collaborating with the Ministry of Health, Medical Supplies Division, National Cancer Institute, and UNICEF. Support national Working Groups by preparing agendas, documenting minutes, and tracking actions. Assist in implementing and monitoring the GPACCM Operational Plan and GICC projects, ensuring deliverables and timelines are met. Draft, review, and finalize SOPs for supply chain management and clinical use of childhood cancer medicines. Coordinate training for staff and manage the procurement and supply of medicines, including distribution planning and quality assurance. Facilitate regulatory approvals and clearance for incoming medicines. Support forecasting and quantification of medicines by reviewing data and updating records. Participate in global and country-level review meetings, preparing technical updates and reports. Submit detailed monthly and quarterly progress reports and undertake other related tasks as required.
Work Experience
Essential: At least one year of relevant professional experience in public health, clinical services, pharmaceuticals, or medicines management, gained through employment, internship, or supervised practice. Desirable: Experience working in a hospital or public health program setting, including supporting projects, coordination, or supply chain-related work.
Skills
Expert knowledge of English and a local language (Sinhala or Tamil). Ability to collect, organize, and summarize health information. Skill in managing multiple tasks and coordinating workstreams. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Familiarity with online communication and digital collaboration tools.
