Organizational Context
The World Health Organization's Division of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Care (PPC) aims to advance global health by integrating promotion, prevention, and care. Within this division, the Department for HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (HTH) leads global efforts to combat these diseases, ensuring equitable access to evidence-based services and innovations.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for supporting the global efforts of the Department for HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (HTH) within the WHO's PPC Division. The primary purpose is to conduct and prepare data analyses and content for global reports on HIV, hepatitis, and STIs. This involves developing and managing data dashboards to effectively disseminate key findings and producing customized datasets for various stakeholders. The position contributes significantly to the validation of data collected from Member States, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of information used for global health initiatives and strategic planning.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include conducting data analyses for global reporting on HIV, hepatitis, and STIs. This involves preparing comprehensive content for global reports, such as text, graphics, and tables, and developing/managing data dashboards for disseminating key findings. The role also entails producing customized analyses and datasets for internal WHO units and external partners upon request. A significant duty is contributing to the review and validation of data related to HIV, hepatitis, and STIs collected from WHO Member States, often in collaboration with UNAIDS. The position also requires performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in collecting, validating, reviewing, analyzing, and reporting health-related data is essential. This includes at least two years of experience developing web-based, data-driven reports using R (shiny, R Markdown, ggplot2). Experience with research studies, publications, and working on projects related to developing countries is also required. Experience with WHO/UN systems and data management systems is desirable.
Skills
Essential skills include excellent knowledge of statistical data analysis principles and methods, advanced skills in analyzing large datasets using R or Stata, and proven expertise in developing data-driven documents, charts, tables, and webpages with R packages (shiny, R Markdown, ggplot2). Proficiency in web technologies (HTML, JavaScript) is also required. Excellent oral and written communication, presentation skills, proactivity, initiative, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team are crucial.
