Communications Support Officer
Organizational Context

Job Purpose
This role serves to enhance WHO's communication efforts in Nepal by liaising with the media and the public on health issues, achievements, and WHO activities. The position supports the implementation of communication strategies to raise awareness of WHO's programs, develops communication products, and manages outreach through various media channels. It aims to ensure positive coverage of WHO's work and advocate for organizational priorities, contributing to national health goals and public understanding of health initiatives.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation of communication strategies and plans to raise awareness of WHO's country-level programs and achievements. Develop communication and advocacy products, including for partnership initiatives, and identify success stories. Manage outreach and dissemination to target audiences via media channels and social media platforms. Organize media events, campaigns, and technical briefings, coordinating between media and WHO experts. Build and maintain networks with the press and national communication counterparts for optimal coverage of WHO's work. Utilize knowledge of cultural norms for effective website content and social media engagement. Monitor media, track audience perceptions, and propose risk-mitigation communications. Collaborate with national stakeholders and partners to disseminate information on health strategies and advocate for organizational priorities. Support emergency communications, social mobilization, and advocacy during public health crises. Provide communication training for WHO country office staff.
Work Experience
Essential: Minimum of two years of relevant work experience in delivering communication services and products at the national level. Desirable: Experience with WHO/UN agencies' programs and practices, and understanding of WHO's mandate in emergency incident management.
Skills
Understanding of public health and international development issues. Proven skills in developing and implementing communication/media products and approaches, including strong writing abilities. Ability to represent and promote the WHO brand in virtual communities. Skill in developing messaging and positioning for an international organization. Ability to elicit and communicate success stories. Expert knowledge of English and Nepali.
