Job Purpose
The Regional Coordinator is responsible for providing technical assistance to Federal Member States to improve equitable access to quality health services, focusing on health system resilience and emergency preparedness. This role involves coordinating the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of regional health priorities in alignment with government strategies and WHO's operational plans. The position also facilitates partnerships, resource mobilization, and ensures the effective management of WHO resources, while enhancing the organization's visibility through advocacy and communication efforts.
Responsibilities
The Regional Coordinator, under the supervision of the WHO Representative and Field Hubs Lead, will provide technical support and supervise WHO FMS teams, focusing on health systems strengthening and emergency preparedness. Key duties include facilitating program support through the Primary Health Care approach, supporting health system strengthening initiatives, liaising with the Ministry of Health for emerging needs, and contributing to WHO's biennial and annual action plans. The role also involves facilitating WHO's contribution to UNSDCF planning, establishing health partnerships, conducting monitoring and evaluation, providing reports, supporting communication strategies, and ensuring the efficient and ethical management of WHO resources, including staff performance and safety.
Work Experience
Essential: A minimum of 7 years of work experience in public health, with a focus on health system strengthening, primary health care, and/or emergency preparedness and response. Desirable: Experience in managing and coordinating health programs/projects or emergency response, and experience within a United Nations organization.
Skills
Technical expertise in public health and health systems, program management, coordination of health programs (planning, service delivery, financing, M&E), emergency preparedness and response, surveillance, and epidemiological investigations. Ability to supervise and mentor others. Proficiency in English and local languages is essential.
