Job Purpose
The Driver, SSA L2, will provide essential transportation services for authorized personnel and commodities, particularly in flood-affected areas of Nepal. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of humanitarian aid and support during emergency operations. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining assigned vehicles, adhering to all safety and security regulations, and accurately managing vehicle logs. Additionally, the driver will assist with basic office tasks and provide support to official personnel and visitors, contributing to the overall effectiveness of WFP's emergency response efforts in Kathmandu and surrounding districts.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Driver, SSAL2 is to provide safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel and commodities, particularly in support of flood emergency operations in Kathmandu and surrounding districts. This involves adhering to UN safety and security regulations, authorized routing, and maintaining a clean and functional assigned vehicle. The role requires meticulous record-keeping, including accurate vehicle logbooks and daily reporting on mechanical status to ensure optimal vehicle use and cost-efficiency. The driver must also ensure the vehicle is properly equipped and all necessary travel authorizations are in place. Additionally, the position entails meeting and assisting official personnel and visitors at entry points, facilitating smooth arrivals. Beyond driving, the role includes performing basic administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and managing office stores when needed. A strong understanding of driving rules, local conditions, and safety standards is essential, along with basic first aid knowledge and effective communication skills. Fluency in both English and Nepali is required.
Work Experience
Requires two or more years of experience as a Driver, ideally within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans and trucks, is necessary. Defensive driving experience is a plus.
