Job Purpose

The Supply Chain Officer (Sustainability) will support the design and implementation of initiatives to enhance sustainability, resilience, and operational efficiency across WFP's supply chain systems. This role involves contributing to projects, partnerships, research, and technical support activities aimed at adopting more sustainable approaches to procurement, logistics, and supply chain management. Key responsibilities include providing technical assistance to country offices, coordinating policy development, building relationships with internal and external partners, identifying funding and partnership opportunities, conducting research on innovative solutions, and documenting best practices. The officer will also support frameworks for monitoring and reporting environmental and social impacts, and integrate social sustainability considerations into WFP's supply chain strategies, aligning with donor requirements and UN policies.

Responsibilities

Supply Chain Officers (Sustainability) at the World Food Programme (WFP) are tasked with enhancing the sustainability, resilience, and operational efficiency of global supply chain systems. This involves providing technical support to country offices for implementing environmental strategies and achieving corporate sustainability milestones. They will design and execute sustainability projects, ensuring alignment with broader program activities. Key responsibilities include coordinating the development and implementation of policies and procedures to strengthen supply chain operations, and building relationships with internal divisions and external partners like private sector entities, UN agencies, NGOs, and governments. These officers will also seek partnership and funding opportunities, identify innovative financing and procurement methods to promote sustainable practices, and conduct research on emerging trends and solutions. They will document best practices and lessons learned for scaling sustainable initiatives and support frameworks and tools, such as WFP’s ECODASH system, for monitoring and reporting environmental and social impacts. Integrating social sustainability considerations and providing technical assistance and training to country offices and partners are also crucial aspects of the role. The positions contribute to WFP's mission of delivering humanitarian assistance efficiently while minimizing negative environmental and social impacts.

Work Experience

Candidates need at least three years of relevant professional experience for Consultancy Level I, and at least five years for Consultancy Level II. This experience should be in areas such as environmental and social sustainability within supply chains, procurement, logistics, operations, circular economy, climate action, or sustainable sourcing. Experience in research, policy analysis, project management, and stakeholder coordination is also beneficial.
