Job Purpose
The Senior Associate Humanitarian Access SC7 will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and monitoring WFP's access strategy in challenging areas of Mali, particularly in the North and Centre. This position involves building and maintaining credible networks with governmental, community, and humanitarian actors to facilitate safe and unimpeded humanitarian access. The role requires conducting contextual analyses, mapping stakeholders, and leading negotiations to ensure the delivery of timely and principled assistance to affected populations. The incumbent will also contribute to conflict analysis, risk management, and capacity building for staff and partners on humanitarian principles, negotiation, and access management, ultimately supporting WFP's mission to save and change lives.
Responsibilities
The Senior Humanitarian Access Associate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring the World Food Programme's (WFP) access strategy in challenging regions of Mali, specifically the North and Center. This role involves building and maintaining a credible network of contacts with governmental, community, and humanitarian actors to facilitate safe and unimpeded access to populations in need. The associate will lead and support humanitarian dialogues and negotiations, ensuring adherence to humanitarian principles. A key responsibility is to establish systematic monitoring and reporting mechanisms on humanitarian access, providing data-driven insights for advocacy. The position also requires conducting contextual analyses, stakeholder mapping, and preliminary assessments to inform operational decisions. Promoting needs-based operations, conflict sensitivity, and the "do no harm" principle are crucial. The associate will also contribute to capacity building for WFP staff and partners on humanitarian access, negotiation, and risk management. Deliverables include mapping influential actors, establishing community engagement mechanisms, and providing regular briefings on WFP's engagement principles and risk appetite.
Work Experience
The role requires at least five years of progressive experience in humanitarian program management, with a focus on community engagement. Experience in humanitarian operations and conflict zones is essential. Specific experience in humanitarian access, field security, mediation or conflict management, and working in Northern Mali or similar contexts is desired.
