Job Purpose
The Parliament and Policy Officer will be responsible for strengthening WFP's engagement with UK parliamentarians, NGOs, think tanks, and other key stakeholders. This role involves proactively expanding and coordinating WFP's network, identifying strategic collaboration opportunities, and coordinating advocacy efforts to advance humanitarian and development priorities. The officer will position WFP as a trusted voice on global hunger and humanitarian response within Parliament, monitor and analyze relevant policy developments, and build relationships with influential organizations. The objective is to shape WFP's political and policy engagement in the UK, thereby strengthening support for global efforts to end hunger and respond to humanitarian crises.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Parliamentary and Policy Officer to enhance its engagement with UK stakeholders, including parliamentarians, NGOs, and think tanks. This role involves positioning WFP as a key authority on global hunger and humanitarian response within the UK Parliament. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing UK political and policy developments relevant to WFP's objectives, anticipating emerging trends, and providing strategic advice. The officer will proactively build and maintain a network of parliamentarians and other influential stakeholders, coordinating engagement activities and advocacy efforts to advance humanitarian and development priorities. Key tasks involve fostering relationships with parliamentary select committees, drafting submissions, securing WFP representation in evidence sessions, and preparing tailored briefings and messaging for political audiences. The role also requires identifying opportunities for strategic collaboration with think tanks, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and UN partners. Ultimately, the goal is to strengthen support for global efforts to end hunger and respond to humanitarian crises by effectively influencing policy and parliamentary discourse in the UK.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in development, policy, or humanitarian response.
