Job Purpose

The Budget Intern will provide analytical and operational support to the Budget & Programming Unit (BPU) in Mauritania. Under the direct supervision of the Budget and Programming Officer, the intern will assist with budget monitoring, resource management, data analysis, and the preparation of internal coordination mechanisms. This internship aims to strengthen the BPU's monitoring capacity while offering the intern structured experience in budget and resource management within a humanitarian context. Key responsibilities include collecting, consolidating, and cleaning budget and resource data, updating monitoring tools, performing initial consistency checks, and preparing descriptive summaries and visualizations of trends and variances. The intern will also support pipeline exercises, RMC meetings, and internal coordination efforts, contributing to the improvement of BPU tools and documentation. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate seeking practical experience in financial analysis and humanitarian resource management.

Responsibilities

The intern Budget Officer will support the Budget & Programming Unit (BPU) in Mauritania. Key responsibilities include collecting, consolidating, cleaning, and structuring budget and resource data from various sources, and updating tracking tools for contributions, available resources, fund utilization, expenditures, and funding needs. The intern will perform initial consistency checks, document discrepancies, and prepare reports with trends and key points. They will also assist in collecting data for monthly pipeline exercises and RMC (Resource Management Committee) support, including preparing meeting materials and tracking agreed actions. Additionally, the intern will conduct ad-hoc descriptive analyses on budget execution and resource availability, contribute to improving BPU's Excel models and procedures, and document data sources and methodologies for traceability. The role involves working under the supervision of the Budget and Programming Officer, collaborating with other units, and adhering to WFP's confidentiality and conduct rules. The internship aims to provide practical experience in budget and resource management within a humanitarian context, enhancing skills in data analysis, reporting, and coordination mechanisms.

Work Experience

The role requires a student or recent graduate with coursework in finance, economics, management, business administration, statistics, or data analysis. Proficiency in French (oral and written) is essential, with English being an asset. Candidates must be able to work in Nouakchott for the internship duration. Strong numerical and analytical skills, excellent command of Excel and PowerPoint, attention to detail, and the ability to present complex information clearly are also necessary.
