Organizational Context
These positions are based in regional or country offices, area offices, and field offices. The incumbents report to the Administrative Officer or their designate. They are responsible for providing transportation services to senior WFP staff, high-ranking officials, and visitors, or for coordinating transportation-related services by planning and assigning routes and schedules for other drivers, and overseeing general vehicle maintenance.
Job Purpose
To provide efficient and safe transportation services to senior WFP staff, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors, and/or to support the coordination of related transport services. This involves ensuring timely and secure travel, adhering to all safety regulations, and maintaining vehicle logs and condition reports. The role may also include planning routes and schedules for other drivers and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure operational readiness. Additionally, incumbents may assist with basic office tasks and provide support during arrivals and departures, including basic visa and customs assistance, contributing to a smooth and secure experience for all passengers.
Responsibilities
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking individuals to provide efficient and secure transportation services for senior WFP personnel, high-level UN officials, and visitors. Responsibilities include driving, planning routes and schedules for other drivers, and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure safety and efficiency. Successful candidates will also assist with airport greetings, basic visa and customs formalities, and maintaining accurate vehicle logs. Additionally, the role may involve basic office support tasks such as filing, photocopying, and managing mail, as well as handling payments for office bills. A valid driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience (preferably with international organizations), and knowledge of local roads, safety regulations, and basic vehicle mechanics are required. Fluency in the duty station's local language and the UN official language is essential, with English proficiency mandatory for Headquarters drivers. Work Experience
Requires a minimum of three years of experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans and trucks, is necessary. Defensive driving experience is a plus. Knowledge of local roads, safety regulations, and basic first aid is also expected.
