Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Assistant

Job Purpose
The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Assistant will support WFP's mission in Iran by contributing to programs focused on disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and resilience building. This role involves assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of DRR projects, ensuring alignment with WFP policies and standards. The assistant will play a key part in coordinating with government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders, facilitating meetings, and acting as a focal point for DRR activities. Responsibilities also include supporting assessments, data analysis, reporting, and contributing to capacity strengthening initiatives for partners and staff. The objective is to enhance Iran's resilience to natural hazards and climate-related events, particularly for vulnerable populations, refugees, and communities affected by disasters.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting the World Food Programme's (WFP) mission in Iran, focusing on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. Key responsibilities include implementing and monitoring DRR and climate resilience projects, ensuring alignment with WFP policies. This entails compiling and analyzing program data, contributing to contingency plans, and developing preparedness measures. The position requires coordinating with government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions, facilitating technical meetings, and acting as a focal point for DRR activities. It also involves leading WFP's participation in inter-agency coordination mechanisms. The role includes conducting disaster risk and vulnerability assessments, maintaining relevant databases, and preparing technical reports for donors and internal use. Furthermore, the successful candidate will lead training sessions and capacity-building activities for partners and WFP staff on DRR and climate resilience, and contribute to knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and best practices. The position also requires adherence to corporate emergency preparedness practices to ensure effective response to disasters and other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Requires at least five years of progressively responsible experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change, resilience, emergency preparedness, humanitarian assistance, or related fields. Experience coordinating with government entities, UN agencies, NGOs, or development partners is also needed. Supporting assessments, programme implementation, reporting, and stakeholder coordination is beneficial. Disaster response or preparedness programming experience is desirable.
