Organizational Context
These positions are based in WFP Country Offices, Area Offices, and Field Offices. The Driver reports to the Management Services Officer or their designate. The role involves operating light vehicles, trucks, vans, or motorcycles, and potentially speed boats. Basic administrative assistance in the office or stores may also be assigned.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this Driver position is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This includes adhering to all routing, UN safety, and security regulations. The role also involves assisting personnel and visitors with arrival formalities, maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks, and reporting on the vehicle's mechanical status. Ensuring the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and properly equipped is crucial. Additionally, the Driver will follow established procedures for deliveries and accidents, reporting any issues promptly. Outside of driving duties, basic office tasks like filing, photocopying, and storekeeping may be required to provide administrative support.
Responsibilities

This includes driving various vehicles, potentially operating watercraft, and ensuring authorized routing. A key aspect involves assisting official personnel and visitors with airport arrivals and customs procedures, facilitating their smooth entry. Maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks and reporting on the mechanical status of assigned vehicles are crucial for efficient use, fuel management, and cost-effectiveness. The role also demands ensuring the vehicle and its equipment are kept clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped with necessary authorizations and supplies. Drivers must promptly report any mechanical issues or problems encountered during field deliveries or accidents to their supervisor for guidance. Beyond driving, the position may require performing basic administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, managing stores, and handling mail and bill payments, providing essential administrative support.
Work Experience
Requires two or more years of experience as a Driver. Experience in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is preferred. A demonstrated safe driving record and experience with various vehicle types are also necessary. Defensive driving experience is desirable.
