Job Purpose
The Senior Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for senior WFP staff, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. This role involves planning and assigning routes and schedules for other drivers, meeting and assisting officials at entry points, and ensuring smooth and safe arrivals. The Senior Driver is responsible for maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks, reporting on the mechanical status of vehicles, and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure operational readiness. Additionally, the position requires adherence to safety and security regulations, prompt reporting of any issues, and performing basic office tasks outside of driving duties. The role demands a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact, contributing to the overall efficiency of transport services.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide safe and efficient transportation for senior WFP staff, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. This includes driving, potentially offering basic translation for conversations, and delivering/collecting items while adhering to authorized routes and UN safety regulations. The position also involves coordinating transport services by planning routes and schedules for other drivers. A key duty is meeting incoming personnel at the airport or other entry points and assisting with basic formalities to ensure a smooth arrival. Accurate maintenance of vehicle logbooks and daily reporting on the vehicle's mechanical status are essential for efficient use and cost-effectiveness. The role requires proactive planning for vehicle maintenance, ensuring all travel authorizations and supplies are in order. Drivers must follow established procedures in case of accidents and report any issues promptly. Beyond driving, the role may include basic office tasks like filing, photocopying, and managing stores or mail services. The position demands a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact, along with knowledge of local driving regulations, safety standards, and basic first aid.
Work Experience
Requires three or more years of experience as a Driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans and trucks, is necessary. Defensive driving experience is considered desirable.
