Job Purpose
The Security Associate will support the implementation and assessment of security measures to ensure the safety of WFP staff, facilities, and operations. This role involves reviewing security threats and risks, compiling accurate reports, and producing analyses to inform decision-making. The Associate will liaise with local authorities and UN/NGO security staff to facilitate safe program delivery and mitigate risks. Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating field missions, conducting security assessments, and recommending risk mitigation measures. The position also supports the development of emergency and contingency plans, maintenance of security equipment, and delivery of security training. The Security Associate plays a crucial role in maintaining security systems and facilitating operational coordination, especially in challenging environments.
Responsibilities
The Security Associate is responsible for a comprehensive range of security-related tasks aimed at safeguarding WFP operations, staff, and resources. This includes the detailed review and reporting of security threats and risks, analyzing trends that could impact operations, and producing in-depth reports using information management tools. A key responsibility is liaising and coordinating with local authorities, law enforcement, communities, and other UN/NGO security personnel to ensure safe program delivery and mitigate risks. The role involves planning and coordinating staff activities during field missions, conducting security assessments, and analyzing assessment reports to provide risk mitigation recommendations. The Security Associate also advises on security risk management and safety issues in compliance with the UN Security Management System, supports the implementation of risk mitigation measures and Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS), and assists in maintaining and upgrading security equipment. Furthermore, they monitor access control procedures, contribute to emergency and contingency planning, and deliver security training to staff, while also supervising and training other support staff. The position requires vigilance, analytical skills, and the ability to manage emergency situations effectively.
Work Experience
Requires at least six years of progressive work experience in the security field. This can include roles such as a military/police officer, Security Analyst, or any other relevant security experience. Prior experience in an emergency context is also necessary.
