Job Purpose
The Driver G2 will be responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel and commodities within Semera, Ethiopia. This includes meeting and assisting official personnel and visitors, ensuring the vehicle is well-maintained and equipped, and adhering strictly to WFP's safety and security regulations. The role also involves maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks, reporting on mechanical status, and assisting with basic administrative tasks outside of driving duties. The Driver will play a crucial role in supporting WFP's operations by ensuring timely and secure movement of people and goods, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the country office.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Driver is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This involves adhering strictly to authorized routing and UN safety and security regulations. The role includes meeting and assisting official personnel and visitors at entry points, facilitating their arrival by helping with visa and customs formalities. Drivers are accountable for meticulously maintaining vehicle logbooks, reporting daily on the vehicle's mechanical status to their supervisor for accurate accounting and cost-efficiency. They must ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean, well-maintained, fully equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies, and promptly report any mechanical issues. In the event of an accident or for field deliveries, drivers must follow established rules and regulations, reporting any problems immediately to their supervisor for instructions. Beyond driving, the position may require performing basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, maintaining stores, and handling mail and bill payments to provide administrative support.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience as a Driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Experience operating various vehicle types, including vans and trucks, is necessary. Defensive driving experience is a plus. Must possess knowledge of driving regulations, local conditions, safety standards, and basic vehicle maintenance. Proficiency in using communication tools and demonstrating a client-oriented approach with high responsibility and courtesy is also essential.
