Job Purpose

The Monitoring Assistant will support WFP's mission by conducting field monitoring, verification, and quality assurance of various food assistance programs. This role involves collecting, validating, and analyzing monitoring data using corporate tools, and preparing high-quality reports and dashboards. The Assistant will coordinate with Cooperating Partners (CPs) and Third-Party Monitors (TPMs) to gather program data, resolve routine issues, and ensure compliance with WFP standards. Key responsibilities include documenting findings, risks, and good practices, providing technical guidance to partners on monitoring methodologies, and supporting the timely verification and follow-up of feedback and complaints. The position also involves contributing to assessments and building collaborative relationships with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure effective program implementation and communication.

Responsibilities

The role involves comprehensive field monitoring, verification, and quality assurance of World Food Programme (WFP) activities, including food assistance, school feeding, nutrition, and livelihoods programs. Responsibilities include coordinating and conducting monitoring, verifying the movement and distribution of items, resolving routine issues, and ensuring compliance with WFP standards and accountability frameworks. Job holders must document findings, risks, and follow-up actions in detailed reports. A key aspect is data collection, validation, and summarization using corporate tools, collaborating with partners to gather program data and validate findings. Preparing high-quality monitoring reports, dashboards, and analytical summaries is essential, along with contributing to various assessments. Effective coordination and communication are vital, requiring regular liaison with cooperating partners, internal units, and community stakeholders to gather feedback, identify bottlenecks, and organize meetings to ensure smooth implementation. The role also entails providing technical guidance to partners on monitoring methodologies and reporting, participating in missions, and building collaborative relationships with local authorities and other UN agencies. Verification and follow-up on feedback and complaints, ensuring timely closure of cases, and identifying trends for escalation are also critical duties. Additionally, the position requires providing training and capacity support to monitoring staff and partners, recommending process improvements, and performing other assigned monitoring tasks.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation, data management, and field monitoring. Must possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office for reporting and data visualization, and the ability to prepare precise monitoring reports. Fluency in English and Afghanistan's formal languages is essential. The role demands the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take on additional responsibilities.
