Job Purpose

The Logistics Cluster Officer - Field Operations will be responsible for leading and coordinating multimodal transport (river, road, air) and common storage operations in Bor, South Sudan. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of humanitarian assistance in a challenging and protracted crisis. The officer will represent the Logistics Cluster in state-level forums, strengthen partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, and local authorities, and build the capacity of national staff. Key responsibilities include managing convoy coordination, overseeing air and river transport, ensuring effective warehousing, and contributing to integrated logistics planning and emergency response efforts. The objective is to maintain a robust and responsive logistics network that supports WFP's mission to save lives and change lives.

Responsibilities

The Logistics Cluster Officer – Field Operations role in Bor, South Sudan, involves coordinating and managing multimodal transport (river, road, air) and common storage facilities to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of humanitarian assistance. Key responsibilities include leading river transport operations, coordinating road convoys with a focus on security and access, and managing air transport in collaboration with partners. The officer will oversee storage facilities in Bor, adhering to WFP warehouse procedures, and represent the Logistics Cluster in state-level coordination forums. This position requires providing technical guidance on logistics procedures to partners and national staff, supervising and mentoring junior staff, and coordinating port and river operations. Additionally, the role involves conducting logistics capacity assessments, leading emergency response planning for logistics, strengthening partnerships with various stakeholders, and producing accurate reports on cluster activities. The officer must ensure integrated logistics planning and collaborate with WFP, UNHAS, and humanitarian partners to align transport, storage, and delivery strategies, ultimately contributing to effective humanitarian aid in a complex and challenging environment.

Work Experience

Master's degree holders require a minimum of five years of progressive experience in leading or managing Logistics Cluster operations and/or humanitarian logistics coordination within emergency and conflict settings. Bachelor's degree holders need a minimum of seven years of similar experience.
