Organizational Context
These positions are to be filled in regional or country offices, area offices and field offices. The incumbents report to the Administrative Officer or his/her delegate. The incumbents are responsible for providing transport services to WFP senior staff (e.g. country directors or regional directors), high-ranking officials and visitors, or for contributing to the coordination of transport-related services by planning and assigning routes and schedules for other drivers, and planning general vehicle maintenance.
Job Purpose
To provide efficient and safe transportation services to WFP senior staff, UN high-ranking officials, and high-level visitors, and/or to provide support in coordinating related transport services. This role involves ensuring the secure and timely movement of passengers and goods, adhering strictly to UN safety and security regulations. The Senior Driver will also be responsible for maintaining vehicle logs, reporting on mechanical conditions, and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure operational readiness. In larger offices, this role may extend to planning and assigning routes and schedules for other drivers, contributing to the overall efficiency of the transport unit and ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities involve providing secure and efficient transportation services to senior WFP personnel, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. This includes driving, offering basic translation for simple conversations, and delivering/collecting items according to authorized itineraries and UN safety regulations. A key aspect is coordinating and planning routes and schedules for other drivers to optimize transport efficiency. The role also entails welcoming officials and visitors at arrival points, assisting with basic visa and customs formalities, and ensuring a smooth and safe entry. Furthermore, the position requires meticulous vehicle log maintenance, daily reporting on mechanical conditions to the supervisor for efficient usage and cost control, and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure vehicles are fully equipped and operational. Adherence to established regulations for deliveries and accident reporting is crucial. Beyond driving, administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, managing stores, mail services, and bill payments are expected to provide administrative support. Specialized duties include acting as a focal point for national vehicle administration data (FleetWave), monitoring fuel systems (FUELAPP), managing mobility bookings (UN BOOKING HUB), supporting related tools (MYFLEET), and overseeing vehicle tracking systems (VTS). The role also involves registering vehicle maintenance and tracking workshops, and serving as a backup for the fleet manager during absences.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of experience as a driver is required, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. Demonstrated safe driving history is essential. Experience operating various vehicle types, including vans and trucks, is necessary. Defensive driving experience is a plus.
