Job Purpose

The Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience will support the design, management, and delivery of WFP's climate resilience programming in Tanzania. This role focuses on project management, technical guidance, coordination, and capacity building for initiatives such as Food Assistance for Assets, landscape rehabilitation, and natural resource management. The officer will contribute to proposal development, provide expertise in areas like regenerative agriculture and livelihood development, and ensure gender and nutrition perspectives are integrated. Key responsibilities include monitoring project implementation, supporting coordination across the country office and with partners, representing WFP in relevant forums, and developing knowledge products. The position aims to strengthen the capacity of communities, institutions, and government to adopt climate adaptation approaches and promote sustainable development.

Responsibilities

The Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience, plays a crucial role in supporting the World Food Programme's (WFP) climate resilience initiatives. Key responsibilities include the design, management, and delivery of climate adaptation and natural resource management programs, such as Food Assistance for Assets and regenerative agriculture. This involves providing technical expertise, project monitoring, and implementation support, ensuring activities align with program objectives and foster collaboration. The role also entails developing proposals, preparing timely reports for stakeholders, and coordinating climate-focused efforts across the country office and with external partners. A significant aspect of the position is building capacity among WFP staff, partners, and government entities to integrate climate resilience concepts into various sectors like social protection and agriculture. Furthermore, the officer is expected to represent WFP in public forums, maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and ensure that gender and nutrition perspectives are embedded in all programming to empower vulnerable groups. The position also involves producing knowledge products and lessons learned to inform future strategies and operations.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in climate mitigation and adaptation, natural resources management, agriculture, international development, or related fields. Additionally, field experience in areas such as food security, sustainable development, rural livelihoods, poverty reduction, asset creation, or climate change programs is necessary.
