Job Purpose

The Security Associate will perform tasks related to the implementation and assessment of security measures and the maintenance of security equipment. This role is crucial for providing timely updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making, thereby ensuring the safety and security of WFP staff, facilities, and operations in Quetta. The associate will contribute to reviewing security threats and risks, producing analytical reports, and coordinating with local authorities and UN/NGO security staff to mitigate potential risks and ensure safe program delivery. This position supports the overall security risk management framework and compliance with the United Nations Security Management System.

Responsibilities

The Security Associate role involves implementing and assessing security measures to protect WFP staff, facilities, and operations. Key responsibilities include detailed review of security threats and risks, compiling accurate reports on trends, and producing analyses using information management tools. The associate will coordinate with local authorities, law enforcement, and other UN/NGO security staff to ensure safe program delivery and mitigate risks. This includes planning field missions, conducting security assessments, and presenting recommendations for risk mitigation. The role also entails advising on security risk management and safety issues in compliance with the UN Security Management System, supporting the implementation of risk mitigation measures like Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS), and managing security equipment. Additionally, the associate will ensure access control procedures are followed, contribute to emergency and contingency planning, deliver security training, and supervise junior staff. The position requires a secondary school education, with a Bachelor's degree in a related field being advantageous, and a minimum of six years of experience in security operations or risk management. Fluency in English and Urdu is essential.

Work Experience

Candidates need a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in security operations and risk management. Military or police background is desirable. Essential skills include specialized knowledge of security methods, broad understanding of security logistics, administration, and risk assessment, plus experience in fire/evacuation procedures. The role requires the ability to manage emergencies calmly, strong attention to detail, vigilance, and excellent communication skills for internal and external correspondence. Compliance with UNSMS standards and willingness to attend security trainings are also expected.
