Job Purpose

The Programme Policy Officer - Food Technologist will support policy and programme activities focused on meeting food assistance needs, with a specific emphasis on coordinating the local production of high nutritional value foods. This role involves contributing to project development, ensuring alignment with WFP standards, and providing project management support for initiatives of moderate complexity. The officer will conduct research and analysis on policy and operational issues, contribute to accurate reporting, and liaise with internal and external counterparts to foster collaboration and manage partnerships. A key aspect will be supporting the capacity building of WFP staff, partners, and the national government in food assistance and nutrition policy implementation. The position also entails supporting the establishment of institutional frameworks, quality control systems, and social marketing strategies for fortified food products, aiming to improve demand and consumption of nutritious foods and documenting processes for future scaling.

Responsibilities

The Programme Policy Officer - Food Technologist role involves supporting policy and program activities to meet food assistance needs, with a specific focus on coordinating the local production of high nutritional value foods. Key responsibilities include contributing to project development, providing project management support for small to moderate-sized initiatives, and ensuring rigorous data gathering and monitoring. The role requires researching and analyzing policy and operational issues to aid senior colleagues, preparing accurate reports for informed decision-making, and liaising with internal counterparts for effective collaboration. Additionally, the officer will support the identification and management of partnerships, contribute to capacity building for WFP staff and national governments, and provide guidance to support staff. Specific duties involve establishing an institutional framework for local food production, supporting actors in the fortified food supplement production chain, implementing semi-industrial and artisanal food production models, establishing quality control systems, and developing social marketing strategies to enhance demand for nutritious foods. The role also requires documenting processes and planning for initiative consolidation and scaling up.

Work Experience

Candidates with an advanced post-secondary education (Master's degree) require at least one year of post-graduate professional experience. This experience should be professional and relevant to the role.
