Job Purpose
The Programme Assistant (Nutrition) will support the Nutrition Officer in the planning, coordination, and monitoring of Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA), Social and Behaviour Change (SBC), and food systems interventions under the Building Resilient Commercial Smallholder Agriculture (BRECSA) Project in Bhutan. This role involves assisting in organizing surveys, monitoring project indicators and outcomes, and supporting the development and dissemination of nutrition education materials. The assistant will provide logistical support for trainings, liaise with implementing partners and government agencies, and track work plans and budgets. Key responsibilities include supporting field monitoring, documenting good practices, and integrating nutrition considerations into agricultural value chains and commercialization efforts. The position aims to improve household diets, nutrition, resilience, and livelihoods by strengthening government capacity and engaging community stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant (Nutrition) plays a crucial role in supporting the Nutrition Officer in implementing various project interventions. Key responsibilities include assisting in the execution of nutrition-sensitive agriculture, value chain, and Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) initiatives, ensuring they align with work plans and project objectives. This involves supporting the organization and coordination of surveys, research, and assessments to inform program design. The role also entails monitoring project indicators, nutrition outcomes, and beneficiary progress, contributing to technical reports and lessons learned. A significant aspect is supporting the development, dissemination, and monitoring of educational materials and communication campaigns. The assistant provides logistical and programmatic support for trainings and community outreach activities, liaising with partners and stakeholders for integrated implementation. They also assist in tracking work plans, budgets, and reporting requirements, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending solutions. Field monitoring of agricultural and nutrition activities, documenting best practices, and supporting capacity strengthening of frontline workers are also key duties. The role involves integrating nutrition into agricultural commercialization and value chains, promoting diversified production, consumption of nutrient-rich foods, and market linkages. The assistant handles routine queries and refers complex issues to the Nutrition Officer, performing other related duties as required.
Work Experience
The role requires a minimum of five years of progressive work experience in a related field. This includes providing programme and administrative support for projects in nutrition, health, food security, social protection, agriculture, or community development. Experience in organizing trainings, workshops, field missions, community outreach, and stakeholder consultations is also desired. Additionally, candidates should have experience in data collection, compilation, tracking, and report preparation, as well as facilitating communication with government counterparts, partners, and communities. Supporting monitoring activities and contributing to nutrition-sensitive agriculture or behaviour change communication initiatives are also key requirements. Experience with UN agencies, government programmes, or development partners is advantageous.
