Job Purpose

The Senior Designer Consultant will serve as the primary design authority within WFP's Communications Division, specifically for the Brand Management & Multimedia unit. This role is crucial for enhancing WFP's global visual identity across all digital platforms, social media, and institutional communications. The consultant will lead the development and maintenance of WFP's design language, ensuring creative excellence and technical rigor in branded products, UX/UI systems, and accessibility standards. Key responsibilities include developing digital brand standards, designing assets for global campaigns and emergency responses, conducting brand audits, and championing digital accessibility. The role also involves leading UX/UI design for wfp.org, creating prototypes, and collaborating with development teams to ensure accessibility compliance. Additionally, the consultant will conceptualize and produce high-impact social media content and design display advertising campaigns, contributing significantly to WFP's donor engagement and humanitarian advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities

The Senior Designer role at the World Food Programme (WFP) is pivotal in shaping the organization's global visual identity across digital platforms, social media, and institutional communications. This position requires a seasoned professional to lead the development and maintenance of WFP's design language, ensuring creative excellence and technical rigor. Key responsibilities include developing and enforcing digital brand standards, creating brand assets for global campaigns and emergency responses, and conducting regular brand audits. A critical aspect of the role is championing digital accessibility, ensuring all WFP products and communications meet non-negotiable standards for color contrast, alt text, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility. The Senior Designer will also lead UX/UI design for WFP's digital platforms, applying human-centered principles throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery to iteration. This involves creating high-fidelity prototypes, facilitating design reviews, and collaborating with web development teams to integrate accessibility requirements. Furthermore, the role involves conceptualizing and producing high-impact social media content and designing display advertising campaigns for donor acquisition and brand awareness. The Senior Designer will also supervise junior designers, coordinate with external agencies, and ensure cross-functional alignment with various teams, ultimately contributing to WFP's mission of saving lives and changing them for the better.

Work Experience

Requires at least 8 years of progressive experience as a digital product designer, demonstrating a mature design style. Must possess good knowledge of programming languages, usability principles, and user interaction for web and app interfaces. Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud, M365 (PowerPoint, Word, Sway), video editing, motion graphics, and coding is essential. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana is also needed. The role demands strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
