Organizational Context
The WFP Country Office in the Democratic Republic of Congo is implementing an ambitious governance strengthening program following an unsatisfactory internal audit opinion. Significant progress has been made in implementing agreed actions, and the Country Office is now entering a new phase focused on independent validation, sustainability of controls, and continuous assurance.
Job Purpose
The Intern - Risk Management and Compliance will support the Risk Management Unit (RMU) in implementing its priorities by contributing to analysis, coordination, reporting, and knowledge management activities. This internship offers practical exposure to governance, risk management, and compliance processes within a large-scale humanitarian operation. The intern will assist in coordinating and monitoring audit actions, updating the Country Office's Risk Register, and tracking mitigation measures. They will also support the compilation and updating of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), maintain risk dashboards, and contribute to risk and governance reports. Additionally, the intern will help organize RMU's shared drives and documentation, and support capacity-building initiatives related to risk management.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Risk Management Unit (RMU) in the Democratic Republic of Congo Country Office. Key responsibilities include coordinating and monitoring audits by tracking agreed-upon actions and preparing documentation for submission. The intern will also assist in updating the Country Office Risk Register, monitoring mitigation measures, and consolidating input from various units. Furthermore, the role involves supporting risk monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management by updating Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), maintaining dashboards, and contributing to risk bulletins and quarterly reports. The intern will also aid in organizing RMU's shared drives and standardizing filing systems. Additionally, they will support field supervision activities, accountability, and the Risk Ambassador Network. This includes preparing training materials, monitoring awareness activities, and contributing to the development of a risk management learning path. The expected outcomes include updated risk registers and audit tracking tools, improved dashboards, reorganized documentation, and contributions to risk reporting and learning initiatives. The intern will also produce a final report detailing achievements and lessons learned.
Work Experience
While no specific years of experience are mandated, an academic background or internship in risk management, audit, compliance, or data analysis is considered an asset. The role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to structure information effectively. Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, along with excellent writing skills, is essential.
