Job Purpose
The Youth Volunteer will support WFP Tanzania's Innovation Unit in exploring, documenting, and coordinating innovative solutions to strengthen programme impact. This role involves assisting in research on emerging innovations relevant to WFP operations, such as climate-smart agriculture and digital finance, and preparing research briefs. The volunteer will also contribute to the planning and coordination of innovation initiatives, including organizing workshops and learning events with diverse partners. Furthermore, they will support knowledge management by documenting innovation initiatives, lessons learned, and best practices, and assist in preparing case studies and reports. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in humanitarian innovation, partnership development, and programme design within a dynamic international organization.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting the planning and coordination of innovation initiatives within the Country Office, including assisting in the organization of workshops, innovation clinics, and learning events. This includes preparing project documents and presentations. A key responsibility is conducting research on emerging innovations relevant to WFP operations, such as climate-smart agriculture, digital finance, clean energy, and circular economy solutions, and preparing research briefs to inform programming. The position also requires supporting the documentation of innovation initiatives, lessons learned, and best practices, assisting in the preparation of case studies and reports, and updating knowledge repositories. Expected deliverables include documentation and briefing notes on initiatives, reports for research and events, and updated knowledge management platforms. The volunteer will gain exposure to innovation programme design, implementation, partnership development with various stakeholders, and humanitarian and development programming within WFP operations, working under the direct supervision of the Head of the Innovation Unit.
Work Experience
The role requires a university degree in fields such as Innovation, Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Studies, Development Studies, or International Development. Desired skills include strong research and analytical abilities, an interest in innovation and development solutions, task coordination skills, excellent communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and an interest in multicultural environments. Experience in coordinating tasks and supporting project implementation is also beneficial.
