Job Purpose
The Data Analyst will support the WFP Regional Office for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe (MENAEERO) by gathering business requirements, extracting, cleaning, and manipulating data from various sources. The role involves developing and maintaining data models, building and optimizing Tableau dashboards, and writing SQL queries to support reporting and analysis. The Data Analyst will implement data quality checks, document data definitions, and contribute to data governance. This position is crucial for leveraging data and technology to enhance WFP's ability to serve those in need and digitally transform its operations, ultimately contributing to the organization's mission of saving lives and changing lives.
Responsibilities
The Data Analyst will support the World Food Programme's (WFP) regional data and analytics team by gathering business requirements and translating them into analytical questions and reporting specifications. This role involves extracting, cleaning, and manipulating data from various sources to create analysis-ready datasets. The analyst will develop and maintain data models to ensure consistent and trusted reporting, and build, publish, and optimize Tableau dashboards and reports, focusing on usability and performance. Key responsibilities include writing and optimizing SQL queries for recurring reports, ad-hoc analysis, and data automation. The position also requires implementing data quality checks, documenting data definitions and lineage, and performing other related tasks as needed. The Data Analyst will contribute to improving transparency and reusability of data assets, ensuring alignment with agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and supporting data-driven decision-making within the WFP's Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe (MENAEERO) regional office.
Work Experience
The role requires a university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Economics, or a related field, along with at least two years of relevant experience. Proficiency in advanced Tableau, strong data manipulation skills (spreadsheets/scripting like Excel Power Query, Python/R), and robust SQL querying abilities are essential. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) is advantageous. The candidate must demonstrate strong data quality awareness, data modeling understanding, and excellent communication skills for data storytelling and stakeholder presentations. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, challenging environment and meet tight deadlines is also crucial.
