Job Purpose
The Security Associate will support the National/Field Security Officer in Garowe by collecting, verifying, and communicating critical security information within the Area of Responsibility (AOR). This role involves liaising with host government security forces, UN agencies, and NGOs to assess the security situation and ensure the safety of WFP personnel and assets. The Associate will assist in maintaining security plans, managing security risk assessments, and reporting security incidents. Additionally, they will contribute to security awareness training and provide security orientations for new staff, ensuring compliance with WFP's security policies and procedures to facilitate safe and effective humanitarian operations in a challenging environment.
Responsibilities
The role involves assisting a National or Field Security Officer in crucial security operations. Key responsibilities include gathering and disseminating information on the security situation within the area of responsibility, and liaising with host government security forces, UN agencies, and NGOs. The position requires assessing security conditions at the duty station, verifying security-related information for analysis, and supporting the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan. Maintaining the security risk management document and reporting security incidents affecting UN/WFP personnel, offices, and assets are also vital. Furthermore, the role includes assisting in organizing security awareness training, providing security orientations to new staff, conducting security briefings, and managing the warden system. Maintaining contact databases for host country security authorities and liaising with commercial security providers are also part of the duties. This position emphasizes proactive security management and information flow to ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
Work Experience
Requires at least six years of experience with a secondary school certificate, or two or more years of experience with a university degree. Proven capabilities in leading field teams, writing security briefs, and handling emergency scenarios are essential.
