Job Purpose

The Security Officer will play a crucial role in supporting WFP's operations in Gaza by contributing to the daily management of security operations. This position is vital for ensuring the safety and security of WFP personnel, assets, facilities, and activities, thereby facilitating the effective delivery of humanitarian programs in a challenging context. The role involves providing technical advice, conducting security assessments, and developing strategies to enhance crisis readiness and preparedness. The Security Officer will monitor local security developments, analyze conflict dynamics, and advise on potential impacts on operations. They will also be responsible for supporting communication and negotiation efforts to secure operational acceptance and contribute to building strong relationships with local partners and inter-agency forums to ensure coordinated security responses and the protection of all WFP stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Security Consultant for its operations in Gaza. This role involves contributing to the daily management of security operations, ensuring the safety of WFP personnel, assets, and activities, and facilitating the effective delivery of humanitarian programs. The consultant will provide technical advice on security assessments and plans, develop systems for monitoring and responding to security needs, and conduct context analysis in conflict-affected areas. Key responsibilities include supporting communications and negotiations for operational security, monitoring local security developments, and advising on their impact. The role also entails maintaining security communication systems, building relationships with local partners, and aligning security activities with broader WFP programs. Integrating gender-responsive security measures, coaching junior staff, and participating in inter-agency forums are also part of the duties. The consultant will prepare timely reports, support monitoring and evaluation, and adhere to emergency security preparedness practices. This position requires an advanced university degree in a relevant field or a first university degree with additional experience, along with at least three years of professional experience in Security Risk Management, preferably within the UN or an international organization. Experience in emergency response and a strong understanding of the Gaza context are desirable. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Arabic is an asset.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of three years of relevant postgraduate professional experience in Security Risk Management. Experience within the UN System or an International Organization is preferred. Supporting complex projects and operational activities that maintain security operations and contribute to strategic aims is considered desirable.
