Job Purpose

Responsibilities
The Programme Policy Officer (Food Systems) will play a crucial role in implementing the World Food Programme's (WFP) Country Strategic Plan (CSP) in Somalia, focusing on resilience building and strengthening sustainable food systems. This involves providing technical and operational support for climate-smart food systems and livelihood interventions, particularly in the South Central Area office. The role requires analyzing policy documents and data related to food systems, livelihoods, and resilience, and translating these findings into actionable WFP programs. Key responsibilities include supporting the effective implementation of food systems and resilience activities, especially those involving smallholder farmers and cooperatives. The officer will collaborate with various technical units, government counterparts, UN agencies, and NGOs to ensure integrated interventions for vulnerable communities. This includes contributing to program development, project design, and resource mobilization. The position also involves developing technical guidelines, coordinating with partners to strengthen collaboration and provide technical assistance, supervising cooperating partners, and assessing capacity building needs. Furthermore, the role entails supporting monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management of food systems and resilience projects, ensuring accurate reporting and documentation, and participating in relevant meetings and field visits. The officer will also provide technical assistance to ensure food systems and resilience programs are nutrition-sensitive and climate-resilient.
Work Experience
Requires at least one year of experience with an advanced degree, or three or more years of experience with a first university degree. Experience should be in programme implementation, preferably in agriculture value chains, food systems, or resilience programming. Monitoring technical activities related to irrigation, production, post-harvest management, and market access with smallholder farmers is also preferred.
